Since about one-and-a-half years I have a beard — I feel very Viking now. That has had some unexpected consequences regarding my daughter and boundaries.

What’s it like being a dad in the twenty-first century?
Every so often, I describe my thoughts and experiences. If you are a parent, soon will be, or like to read my take on it, this is what to read. Oh, and don’t laugh.
My daughter loves to watch TV. I think most children do. If ‘eating vegetables’ or ‘cleaning up’ were as riveting, the world would probably be a much better place.
I used to have a baby who made various undefined noises. Nowadays, I have a fully functional toddler who can talk. That took some getting used to.
I was at a family reunion last week, running after my toddler all afternoon to keep her away from the knives and power outlets. One of my cousins remarked that she’d always just let her children run free; they had to learn for themselves, didn’t they? That got me thinking.
